The United Way of Marion County got members of the community excited for the 2016-17 United Way campaign during Tuesday’s kickoff at the Falcon Center on the shared campus of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College.
Blaire-Nuzum Wise, president of the board of directors of the United Way of Marion County, announced the 2016-17 campaign theme “Give Local, Live Local.”
“I think that we wanted to make (the campaign) very personal and Marion County-centric because if we are unable to meet the basic needs of our neighbors, then our community is not going to live and thrive,” she said.
Dr. Maria Rose, president of Fairmont State University, welcomed community members to campus and said the university is honored to be able to host the kickoff event each year.
As a member of the community-review board, Rose said it is apparent that there is a lot of need in Marion County, and it is important to provide services to the citizens.
